Hello good people. The vision and fund raising for the music centre in Zambia is building momentum and since March 2011, Music Earth Rise has been hosting monthly events at The Betsey Trotwood in Farringdon which have helped raise a total £4,231.56 funds to date. It seems a long time ago since both Val and I took flight with a case full of calculators for delivery to Mr Mulenga in Mukuni Village, with my guitar in tow! Looking through the photos it brings back the warmth and energy of a magnificent country where optimism thrives in adverse conditions.

We are now working towards a big event to raise the rest of the funds to build the Music Centre. ‘SAVE THE DATE’ – Sat 29th October @ The Bush Hall, 310 Uxbridge Rd, Shepherds Bush, London. Announcements coming very soon and ticket sales scheduled for release on the 6th September 2011.

The next Betsey Trotwood gig is on the 6th September 2011 – see www.musicearthrise.com

On the 5th April we gathered at The Betsey Trotwood for another MUSIC EARTH RISE event bringing 3 featured artists – Torn Sails, Karen Be and Bowey White. It turned out to be an extremely eventful evening. For me, the highlight was watching Karen Be light up the room with her jungle soul pop vibe delivered through a hand made folk guitar and dreamy velvet vocals. The result being a fresh raw sound and experience! A simple delivery yet a compelling performance that stopped everyone in their tracks!

The next event – Tues 3rd May !

(The Chain performing @ MUSIC EARTH RISE)

Music Earth Rise (unplugged) launched at The Betsey Trotwood on 01/03/11 and witnessed three superb artists: Leonie Casanova, Claire Brem Wilson and The Chain; all performing to help raise funds towards the music centre in Mukuni Village, Zambia.

All we asked was to bring an imaginary empty cup, absorb and to communicate with us from 7.00pm onwards.

The audience experienced a creative bonanza oozing great music in a great space; providing a superb evening for all. Throughout the night we had DJ Snypa delivering traditional Zambian music ‘Kalindula’; a real treat and sure fire shot to uplift any event. At £3 a head to get in, the door took £245.53 which goes towards the build of the music centre. Including Gift Aid, this brings the total funds raised to £3496.08

That’s including an extra £20 donation form Sue via www.justgiving.com/brendansmission
(whom I met on Tuesday at The Betsey) Thanks Sue !

So, let’s try and get it over £3,500 this week – donations welcome: www.justgiving.com/brendansmission What say you !?

We really were treated with some great performances up close and intimate, so a big thanks to everyone involved from Luca and Richard who organised the sound, Dj Synpa and his soul beats, the artists and all who made it in support.

A lot people commented that it should have been more than £3 to get in for the quality of what was delivered, so we may look at bringing that up a bit for the next event which is on the 5th April 20011 (The first Tuesday of every month)

Thanks again for some great music and a rare energy source. Let’s sustain it !

‘MUSIC EARTH RISE’ champions music as the ultimate unifier and vehicle to make a difference.

I hope as many people can make it down on Tuesday night at The Betsey to support the first MUSIC EARTH RISE event. The ethos for Music Earth Rise is ‘Creativity true to your essence’. For me, music should be able to drop the walls that we often surround ourselves with and I think we have some great artists supporting the event who do exactly that.

We also have a guest appearance from DJ Snypa who will be gracing our ears with some authentic Zambian music “Kalindula”. Open your ears and open your heart to an evening of good will and authenticity. Bring an imaginary empty cup, absorb and communicate with us from 7.00pm onwards.

And remember the focus:
All door money goes to towards building a music centre for orphans in Zambia.

(Join our FB page to be updated on future events)
www.facebook.com/musicearthrise

Be part of it, share the word and hope to meet you there!

—————————————————————

We have also had two more donations in the past week. A second one from the Nourish Womens Choir in Hobart Tasmania, an amazing £175 – another huge thanks over to you and secondly, from somebody I met at an event called ‘Start something you love’ – It’s amazing when people donate who have only met you once or haven’t even met you at all.

I was working away on my computer last week and an email popped through from Just Giving. It said ‘someone has donated £550 to your Just Giving page’ !!! I didn’t believe this and thought maybe someone had added an extra 5 by mistake !

…i’m glad to say that wasn’t the case !

Cynthia and Den from Oswestry achieved an amazing £550 fundraising mission by selling copies of their ‘easy listening’ piano duet CD ‘Music School for Mukuni’ Cynthia pressed up the CD’s and designed some CD covers using pictures from the website, explaining about the project and The Buttrerfly Tree charity and sold them for £3 each over the course of a few months.

Wow ! A big thank you to Cynthia and Den for such a massive, massive effort over the past few months and to all the people in Oswestry who supported them both, the project and the vision. It’s a huge inspiration and I admire it. The amount of time and effort to get this far has been immense, not to add the time and effort from others such as Cynthia et al who drove this fundraising achievement. So once again, a real big thank you.

I would also like to thank Maureen from Leisure PR who donated £200 over Christmas by using the song ‘Heal Your Love’ as an online christmas card to her clients (See below)

Each year at Leisure PR we support a project or charity instead of sending Christmas cards. This year we are supporting The Butterfly Tree, a charity that aims to assist rural communities in Zambia, providing improved education, feeding programs, safe water, health care and run an orphan sponsorship programme.

One of our friends, singer, songwriter Brendan Mission visited the project this year and dedicated his song Heal Your Love to the charity, along with a couple of other tracks the royalties from which go to the project. We have made a donation to the Butterfly Tree in order for you to enjoy the tune.

Before that we also had £100 donation from from the Nourish Womens choir in Tasmania, Australia who collected every week from their choir group to raise the donation. Another big wow and thanks all the way to the other side of the world.

So, including the generosity of thought and action from all of the above and all other donations, the total raised is £2660.86 and if we include Gift Aid that takes it to £3,011.45

A big up to all and the support to date.

More info coming soon…

So here we are, 2011 is truly well underway at a galloping pace!
It’s been a good month since my last blog so I thought I’d give everyone a quick update.

So far, the total raised for the Music Centre has totalled £2,461.45. The good will and support has been great to date and i’m sure you will all be glad to know there are many things in progress to help raise the rest of the funds in order for the construction to start.

So yes, there are lots of things in the pipleline … more to come on that very soon, but for now let me just remind everyone that The Butterfly Tree is a very unique charity in that all funds go directly to the cause and all members are volunteers!

The Butterfly Tree charity was founded by Jane Kaye-Bailey after a business incentive trip to Zambia with her late husband, Lawrence, in February 2006. During a visit to the Mukuni Village they learned about the decimation caused by HIV/AIDS in Zambia, every family had been affected. Out of 1000 pupils in the school, 450 were orphans. Jane was determined to find a way to raise funds to help these vulnerable children.

Take a look at their website www.thebutterflytree.org.uk and join them on facebook

In the meantime, if you would like to donate to the project you can do so here www.justgiving.com/brendansmission

Red ribbons sported by your friends, family, coworkers and strangers aren’t just to ring in the Yuletide cheer today. December 1st is a day to create awareness, reduce prejudice, raise funds, and increase education for AIDS.

World AIDS Day this year promotes ‘Universal Access and Human Rights’ by
reminding people that the fight against HIV/AIDS continues as the number of adults and children living with HIV and AIDS related deaths climb.

Part of Worlds AIDS Day is to learn about HIV/AIDS prevention and become more educated to overcome HIV/AIDS correlated discrimination. No matter where you are in this world, perhaps you can take a moment out of your day to acknowledge on those you know affected by HIV/AIDS. And if you have a few moments reflect on the 33.3 million people living with HIV/AIDS around the globe.

If you would like to support a good cause: Download ‘Heal Your Love’ and help us raise funds to build a music/drama centre to help improve HIV/AIDS awareness through music and performance.
